This 2011 survey of 1,225 BI professionals found that cost has become the biggest factor in BI buying decisions. The survey shows that of the 3 main components of the cost of the BI platform - licenses, implementation fees, and administration costs – it is administration costs that make up as much as 75% of the overall BI platform and are recurring, so BI decision-makers should focus their attention here. For any deployment, BI decision-makers should try to maximize the number of people who use the BI platform to bring down per-user costs. Low-cost tools that do not meet requirements will not deliver expected business benefits. “Survey respondents report lower per-user costs for Information Builders across all cost categories”.
